Description
Shanxi, circa 1920
This lovely little table would make a great console in a hallway, with two useful drawers and a lower shelf that is ideal for storing magazines and books or for displaying ornaments. The table is from Shanxi province in central China, in a simple, classic design. The drawers have a simple, moulded design and are fitted with ring handles. The legs form the frames of the upper section and end in horse hoof feet, now worn to show the pale elm wood beneath the original black lacquer surface. The lacquer on the top surface is largely still present but shows the marks of many years’ use and has worn to a softer tone, with the attractive wood grain showing through.
